Delimitation meeting tamil nadu: On behalf of the states of the south, especially Tamil Nadu has raised loud voice against the proposed delimitation for a long time. On Saturday, a big meeting of opposition parties was called in Chennai under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. In this, the states of the south shouted that they would not accept the delimitation under any circumstances. It will be necessary to tell that after the census in the year 2026, the Lok Sabha seats across the country are to be delimited.
The states of the south are constantly fearing that this delimitation on the basis of population may reduce the Lok Sabha seats of their states and increase the seats in North India. The Trinamool Congress, which is running the government in West Bengal from the meeting of opposition parties, remained away and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who is leading the NDA government in the south state Andhra Pradesh, is silent on the issue.
The DMK did not invite the Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar) on behalf of Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Maharashtra, who is in the India alliance. The reason for this is also clear because most of these parties are not opposing delimitation. Perhaps he does not agree with the DMK in terms of delimitation. Because sources in these parties say that they are waiting for the NDA government to come forward before reaching any result in this matter.
TMC has not yet declared its stand on the issue. A senior SP leader said that his party is focused on the 2027 assembly elections and if seats increase in delimitation, Uttar Pradesh will benefit the most.
10.11 lakh average population formula
In the 1977 Lok Sabha, every MP from India represented 10.11 lakh people on an average. If the formula with an average population of 10.11 lakh is delimited, then the total seats of MPs in Uttar Pradesh (including Uttarakhand) will increase from 85 to 250. The total seats of Bihar and Jharkhand are 54, which will increase to 169 (meaning three times increase). Similarly, the Lok Sabha seats of Rajasthan will increase from 25 to 82.
The Lok Sabha seats of Tamil Nadu will also increase but it will increase from 39 to 76 and it is less than doubled. The seats in Kerala will increase from 20 to 36. But this formula will probably not be implemented due to only 888 seats in the new Parliament.

Southern states will suffer loss
If the population of each Lok Sabha seat is doubled and implemented a 20 lakh formula, then there will be 707 seats in Parliament instead of 543, but this will cause tremendous loss to the southern states. In this formula, the seats of Tamil Nadu will be 39, while two seats in Kerala will be reduced to 18. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh (including Uttarakhand) will have 126 seats while Bihar and Jharkhand will have 85 seats.
If the average population of every Lok Sabha seat is 1.5 million, then the number of seats in the country will be 942 and in this situation also the southern states will be damaged. If there is delimitation on this formula, Tamil Nadu will have 52 Lok Sabha seats and Kerala will have 24 Lok Sabha seats but there will be 168 seats in Uttar Pradesh (including Uttarakhand) and 114 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar and Jharkhand.
North vs South controversy over increasing delimitation due to population, understand what can be the option to solve

The Congress is very cautious on this issue. He is in alliance with DMK in Tamil Nadu. RJD MP Manoj Jha said that there should be delimitation after the census and before that it should be discussed in Parliament. The NDA ally TDP is silent on this and the Janasena Party of Pawan Kalyan, another NDA, did not attend the opposition meeting. However, the Biju Janata Dal, who was in power in Odisha for a long time, attended the meeting.
After this meeting of the opposition, it seems that the opposition parties on the issue of delimitation are not standing on one platform very strongly and it will be difficult for them to create a big movement on this issue.
