Mk stalin minister remarks: Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Muraugan has deepened the North-South division by giving a controversial comment on the culture of North India. He said that women in North India can marry five or ten men.
Murugan also threatened that if someone was insulted by Tamil culture, we will cut their tongue. His statement has deepened the dispute over cultural differences between North and South India.
Tamil Nadu minister's statement
Addressing a public meeting, Durai Muraugan said that there has been a practice of polygamy and polygamy in North Indian traditions. He said, “In our culture, a man marries only a woman. But in North India, a woman can have many husbands-sometimes five or ten. Similarly, many men can marry a woman. It is their tradition.”
Referring to the Draupadi of Mahabharata, he said, “If someone goes, the other takes his place.” His statement has come in the context of the delimitation dispute, in which the Tamil Nadu government fears that parliamentary seats may be cut on the basis of new population calculations.
Issue of delimitation dispute and population control
Speaking on the issue of delimitation, Minister Murugan said that the Congress and other central governments had asked the South Indian states to follow the population control, which they successfully implemented. But the population in North India increased rapidly. He alleged that “there were 17, 18 or 19 children in families in North India, such as they have no other responsibility.”
He also reacted to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's remarks on DMK MPs and said, “Coming from this smelly culture, you are calling us rude? We will bite your tongue. There are provisions.”
Increasing concern over delimitation in South India
The South Indian states, including Tamil Nadu, fear that if the parliamentary seats have been redistributed on the basis of new population calculations, their representation may decrease. At present, seats have been allotted in Parliament based on the 1971 census. The South Indian state believes that they strictly implemented the population control policies of the Center, leaving their population growth rate. In contrast, the population of North Indian states has increased rapidly. In such a situation, if there is delimitation, then the states of the south may have to face seats cuts, which can reduce their political influence.
