The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has directed the closure of illegal slaughterhouses and banning the sale of meat within 500 meters of religious places before the nine -day Chaitra Navratri starts. It has to be told that the festival of nine -day Navratri dedicated to Goddess Durga will start on Sunday (March 30).
According to the instructions issued by the Chief Minister's Office, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, Amrit Abhijat, has directed all the District Magistrates, Police Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners to immediately stop illegal slaughterhouses and ensure strict adherence to the ban on the sale of meat near religious places.
The instructions stated that strict restrictions on animal slaughter and meat sale will be implemented during Ram Navami on 6 April 2025. Under the UP Municipal Corporation Act, 1959 and Food Security Act 2006 and 2011, the Yogi government has asked the officers to take strict action against those who violate the rules.

District level committees constituted
Citing the orders issued in 2014 and 2017, the Yogi government has clarified that religious places will have a complete ban on illegal animal slaughter and sale of meat. District level committees have been constituted under the chairmanship of the District Magistrates to implement this decision. These committees will include officials of Police, Pollution Control Board, Animal Husbandry Department, Transport Department, Labor Department, Health Department and Food Safety Administration.

Apart from this, the Chief Minister has also directed to organize a 24 -hour unbroken lesson of Shri Ramcharitmanas in all the districts on the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Ramnavami. He has said that the Akhand Manas recitation starting from the afternoon of March 5 should be done on 06 March at 12 noon on the day of Shri Ram Navami with Surya Tilak of Shri Ramlala at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, necessary arrangements have been started in the temples of all the districts. The Chief Minister has also directed that 24 hours uninterrupted power supply should be provided in the entire state during Chaitra Navratri.

On the other hand, in Maharashtra, Sanjay Nirupam, the leader of Shiv Sena Shinde faction, has raised a similar demand. He met Zone-10 Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gunjale on Saturday and said, “Navratri is starting from tomorrow. People worship the goddess and observe fast. In such a situation, shops selling mutton, fish and meat should be closed on the road. It can be sold in the restaurant but all these shops should be closed openly on the streets, honoring the emotions.”
