Shehla rashid news: The allegations of treason filed against former JNU Students Union Vice President Shehla Rashid will be withdrawn. According to sources, a Delhi court has allowed Delhi Police to remove these allegations. The case was registered against Shehla in 2019 for making objectionable tweets against the Indian Army.
According to police sources, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh passed this order on an application filed by the prosecution on 27 February. It was said in the application that Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has withdrawn his approval to prosecute Shehla. This case was registered under allegations like treason, religious and social grounds such as inciting hostility, inciting riots, which provides for maximum life imprisonment.
Charges withdrawn after the Lt. Governor's approval
It was informed in the application that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had canceled the permission to prosecute on 23 December 2024, approved the recommendation of the screening committee. An FIR was lodged against Shehla at the Special Cell Police Station in New Delhi in 2019. This complaint was lodged by a person named Alakh Alok Srivastava. Shehla was accused of trying to incite hostility among different groups and damage social harmony through his tweets.
Serious allegations were made on Indian Army
On 18 August 2019, Shehla Rashid claimed the social media platform X (East Twitter) that the Indian Army is harassing the local people in Kashmir and harassing them. The army had dismissed these allegations as completely baseless. The Delhi Police, considering the matter serious, registered a case of treason against him.

Shehla Rashid has been a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He has done a masters in sociology and international relations. Shehla had opened a front against the Central Government and the Delhi Police during that time and expressed her opinion on many forums in support of freedom of expression.

Shehla Rashid has always been in controversy. In 2016, she was reportedly reported as part of the 'piece-gang' when there were allegations of anti-national slogans in JNU. At that time, JNU Students' Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and Omar Khalid were also arrested. However, the students denied these allegations. Shehla had openly criticized the policies of the government and police, supporting the rights of the students. However, after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Shehla has been praised by the Modi government's works.
